COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - SLED agents are investigating the cause of a Colleton County house fire that took the life of an 86-year-old woman.

Rebecca Pencile died in the fire, according to the Colleton County Coroner.

Authorities say Pencile was home alone and that Monday was her birthday.

The fire happened at a home on the 1000 block of Jerusalem Road in the White Hall community Monday morning.

According to Colleton County Fire and Rescue officials, at 6:01 a.m., a passerby saw flames coming from a home, stopped at a nearby house and had the residents call 911.

When crews arrived on the scene they found the one story house had already been destroyed.

Family members told responders that the victim should be in the home.

Firefighters reported locating the victim's body about 20 minutes later.

No foul play is suspected.
