CofC Cougars leave for NCAA tournament in San Diego

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The College of Charleston men's basketball team boarded buses to the airport Tuesday night in preparation for the team's journey to San Diego.

Several students and fans gathered outside of the TD Arena in downtown Charleston to wish the team well before they boarded the buses.

"I'm sad because I can't go to San Diego," said College of Charleston professor and fan Devon Hanahan. "Without exception, they're all the finest young men that you'll meet."

Before the team boarded the buses, College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Gr ant spoke about what this experience has been like for the College of Charleston community so far.

"It's exciting for the players, obviously the community and the campus," Gr ant said. "It's a big accomplishment. It's a step in the right direction."

This will be the fifth time the Cougars have competed in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

College of Charleston will play Auburn in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Region on Friday, March 16.

The time of the game has not been set.
