CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A prayer vigil was held Wednesday night to remember the victims of a quadruple homicide who were killed in their Charleston County home over the weekend.

Joseph Manigault, 72; Rose Manigault, 69; Kenya Manigault, 42 and Faith Manigault, 15, died Saturday, the Charleston County Coroner's Office said.

The vigil was held at the Greater Goodwill AME Church in Mount Pleasant off Highway 17.

The family's pastor, the Rev. A.R. Kollok, called the Manigaults a Christian, Bible-based family.

“Wiped out a whole family, pretty much a whole household,” Kollok said Monday.

He said the whole community is struggling over the loss of the four family members, including Rose, who sang in the choir, and Faith, who was active in the youth ministry.

"As a church family and as members of our church, it’s really devastating to us. Yeah, it just really blew us away as a church family,” he said. "They're searching for answers to see why something so horrific could happen to them in that community."

Deputies found the victims at their home on Atlanta Drive in Charleston County after responding to a call about a disturbance. Deputies say two of the victims were found in the garage and the other two were found in a bedroom.

Kollok and others in the community learned that another family member, Lovequawn Scott, the grandson of Joseph and Rose, had been arrested for the crime.

The effects of the murders also are being felt at James B. Edwards Elementary School, where Joseph Manigault worked as a custodian for about 15 years. When he retired, the cafeteria was named in his honor.

“Just why in the world would anyone want to harm Joe Manigault or any member of his family?” James B. Edwards Elementary School teacher Nancy Platt asked.

“Joe was the kind of guy who always had a smile on his face and his heart was as big as his smile and he would help anybody with anything they needed,” teacher Leslie Rosen said.

Investigators say Scott, who lived at the home on Atlanta Drive, beat all four to death. He remains behind bars at the Charleston County Jail without bond.

Investigators have not released a possible motive for the murders.

Kollok confirmed funeral services for the family will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant.
