WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - One person is in custody following a chase that started in North Charleston and ended in West Ashley Thursday night.

North Charleston PD spokesman Spencer Pryor says that it all started on I-26 near the 209 mile marker when officers attempted a traffic stop.

According to a report, the driver refused to stop and fled onto I-526 westbound onto Paul Cantrell Boulevard.

Pryor said the suspect then made his way to Ashley River Road and struck a silver Kia Optima.

The suspect then continued into a parking lot in the 2300 block of Ashley River Road where he fled, police say.

Officers then took the suspect into custody.

Video captured from the scene shows a man lying down in the middle of the road.

The video shows the man eventually being escorted by officers to a patrol vehicle.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department, North Charleston Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident.

A portion of the road was closed as crews cleared the scene.
