NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

North Charleston Police say Rivers Avenue has reopened to traffic after a suspicious package forced them to block the roadway.

The package was examined and found to not be a threat or an explosive device, North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The Charleston County Bomb Squad and the North Charleston Fire Department responded to the scene at the 6900 block of Rivers Avenue shortly after 10 a.m.

Witnesses say cars were being detoured while the investigation was underway.

Drivers were warned to expect traffic delays in the area.
