CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston Police say an underage teen is facing multiple charges after leading them on a chase that ended Saturday morning in West Ashley.

The 16-year-old driver is charged by North Charleston Police with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and failure to stop for a blue light and charged by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office with failure to stop for a blue light, North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

His identity was not released because of his age.

Police responded shortly after 9 a.m. to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle at a Madden Drive home in North Charleston, Pryor said.

While officers were on the way to the home, they learned the driver had left the scene. They located the vehicle in the area of Azalea and Cosgrove and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled over the Cosgrove Bridge and into the City of Charleston, Pryor said.

Charleston County deputies then spotted the vehicle approaching Orleans Road and joined the chase, he said.

Police say the vehicle struck a curb turning onto Orleans Road and the driver and passenger fled in different directions but the driver was captured.

The passenger of the vehicle was not located.

Pryor said the teen was being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice.
