HUGER, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters say the largest of four wildfires at the Francis Marion National Forest is now 90 percent contained.
Francis Marion Ranger District's firefighters are continuing to strengthen fire lines and patrol the active wildfires, according to a release from the Forest Service.
The Cumbee Fire, located near the entrance of the Wambaw Cycle Trail is 90 percent contained as of Saturday. The Wambaw Cycle Trial is open, but Forest Service Road 161 is closed between 166 and Halfway Creek Road. The Cumbee Fire has involved 1,630 acres.
The Cogshell Fire is located off Highway 17A and is 10 acres in size, the release states. It is 90 percent contained.
The Calestown Fire is located off Calestown Road and in compartment 35 and involves 627 acres. The release states the fire is creeping and smoldering but is 85 percent contained.
The North Hampton Fire near Hopewell Church and in compartment 97 is now fully contained, the release states.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
