Police investigating deadly weekend shooting in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

North Charleston Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead over the weekend.

Police responded to the 2600 block of Houston Street at 12:52 a.m. to investigate a report of a shooting victim lying in a front yard.

Officers found the man lying on his back and said he was unresponsive and appeared to have gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen, according to an incident report.

EMS crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

Two women pulled up to the scene and spotted the victim in the yard and called 911, the report states. Police said a neighbor also called 911 at approximately 9:43 p.m. to report hearing shots fired. 

Other neighbors reported hearing three or four shots sometime around 9:30 p.m. but heard nothing after that.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has not yet released the victim's identity.

Police are asking for anyone with information on the shooting to call North Charleston Police at 843-554-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
