BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Berkeley County Coroner has located a relative of a man found dead outside of a Moncks Corner church last week.

The body of 72-year-old Berville Patrick was found by the pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church on Wednesday morning.

“My first thought was that he was sleeping,” Rev. Lillian Washington said.  “I blew my horn to see if I could startle him or anything. He did not move.”

The coroner’s office ruled that Patrick died of hypothermia.

“He was just laying there,” Washington said. “He had no shoes, no coat, no anything. It was pretty cold that morning."

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said his office was able to contact one of Patrick's relatives in Virginia.  That relative will claim Patrick's remains.

“We do everything that we possibly can to locate somebody for them,” Salisbury said. “I want to return the remains to the loved ones.”

As Live 5 News reported, Berkeley County houses 18 sets of unclaimed human remains.
