MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County firefighters responded to a fire at a Berkeley Electric Coop building Wednesday night.

Crews battled the fire at Berkeley Propane near Highway 52 in Moncks Corner, according to Moncks Corner Rural Fire Chief Scott Lee.

Lighting outside the building malfunctioned, sparking the fire, Berkeley Electric Coop spokesperson Leisa Stilley said.

No one was in the building when the fire began, she said.

Lee said neon lighting was the type of lighting that started the fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by approximately 8 p.m., she said.

No injuries were reported.

The building is a location where propane customers can pay bills and see products available.

The building will be temporarily closed because of the fire, Stilley said.
