The Citadel's Simmons announces he's transferring

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Citadel basketball team suffered another off season loss on Wednesday when freshman guard Tariq Simmons announced on Twitter that he'll be transferring from the school.

"First off, I would like to thank God for everything he's doing for me in my life right now. I would like to thank coach Baucom and the entire Citadel basketball staff for the opportunity they've provided me, giving me the ability to play college basketball. I would also like to thank the Bulldogs fans for supporting me through everything, y'all will truly be missed. With that being said, I will not be finishing my academic and basketball career at The Citadel. Thanks to everyone that's been with me through thick and think.

Simmons becomes the 4th player on the team to transfer since the season began and the 2nd this week after starting point guard Frankie Johnson announced his intentions to leave on Monday.

The Columbia native put together a solid freshman season playing in all 32 games for The Citadel including 8 starts. He averaged over 7 points, 2 rebounds and almost 2 assists per game.
