CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Wednesday marked World Down Syndrome Day and a downtown Charleston coffee chop celebrated accordingly.

Bitty and Beau's employs many people with disabilities and uses the slogan "It's more than a cup of coffee." It was founded by Amy Wright and named after two of their children who have down syndrome.

Charleston mayor John Tecklenburg stopped by Wednesday to give the shop a proclamation and employee Sam Hazeltine broke down when he saw it.

"People who have down syndrome, it's a huge part of our community," Hazeltine said. "I just love what I do in the coffee shop."

Trista Kutcher was elated to see the mayor honoring the business.

"I love to work here," Kutcher said.
