BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A long-awaited road project in Summerville is almost finished, a project manager said Friday.

The Nexton interchange Project is expected to be completed by middle or late April, according to senior project manager Greg Cook with Banks Construction.

The interchange will connect Nexton Parkway to Summerville in Berkeley County and is also is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on Main Street in Summerville.

The $69.5 million project will include the widening of two miles of I-26, increasing it from four to six lanes toward the Jedburg exit, and a new 120-foot, three span bridge and interchange at exit 197.

Cook says Nexton Parkway will stretch for eight miles and will connect to Highway 176 at Cane Bay.
