Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) took a perfect game into the sixth and allowed one run in seven innings, and Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the College of Charleston baseball team to a 5-1 win over William and Mary on Friday evening in both teams’ Colonial Athletic Association opener.
College of Charleston (17-6, 1-0 CAA) pushed across five runs on seven hits – including two for extra bases – while holding an opponent to two runs or less for the 12th time this season. The Cougars limited William and Mary (8-14, 0-1 CAA) to one tally on four hits, all singles.
Hart reached base four times to set the tone for the Cougars, while also driving in a run. Ari Sechopoulos (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) launched his third home run of the season – a two-run bomb to right in the eighth – while Joey Mundy (Huntington, W.Va.) added an RBI.
Sisk improved to 5-1 on the season with seven strong innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two after taking a perfect game into the sixth. Nathan Ocker (Middletown, Pa.) tossed two shutout innings to pick up his fourth save.
Colin Lipke, Luca Farina, Matt McDermott, and Zach Pearson each collected a single for the Tribe, while Owen Socher drove in William and Mary’s lone run. Chris Farrell got the start and pitched two scoreless innings. Jamie Sara tossed four frames in relief, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks to take the loss. Charlie Fletcher threw one scoreless inning, while Nick Butts surrendered two runs on three hits in the eighth.
The Cougars and Tribe will wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game one is slated for 2:00 pm, with game two scheduled to begin 45 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
