Judge sets bond for driver arrested on unrelated charge after child struck by car

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say a driver believed to have struck a child Saturday afternoon was arrested on an unrelated charge.

The incident happened in the area of Attaway Street and Remount Road at approximately 1 p.m., according to North Charleston Police Capt. Scott Perry.

Perry said the driver, Baptista Conyers, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Jail records indicate Conyers faces a charge of third-degree assault and battery. A judge set Conyers' bond Sunday morning at $1,087.

EMS took the child to an area hospital for treatment.

Police arrested the driver on an outstanding warrant, but there were no immediate charges related to the accident, Perry said.

Conyers was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
