NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Two thousand middle and high school girls from 61 cities across the southeast were in the Lowcountry Saturday.

They came to Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston for the fifth annual Dream Girls conference.

The conference helps build self-esteem, combat bullying and encourages making good choices.

The event also gave the girls the opportunity to hear stories and experiences of people who overcame incredible obstacles in order to reach their dreams.

Live 5 anchor Aisha Tyler and reporter Alexis Simmons spoke at the event along with Dr. Ebony Hilton, the first black Anesthesiologist hired at MUSC.
