CHARLESTON, SC - Citadel right-handed pitcher Jordan Buster has been named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Buster, a junior from Lexington, South Carolina, is the first Citadel pitcher to earn the award this season.
Last week, Buster made two appearances on the mound for the Bulldogs, pitching 4.2 innings of one-hit ball where he did not give up a single run while posting a 1-0 record. In total, he struck out 10 of the 19 batters he faced and held those 19 opponents to a .067 batting average.
Buster started his week off by pitching the final 2.2 frames in the 4-3 road win over South Carolina. He matched his career high with five strikeouts, including the first two batters he faced in the seventh and two in the ninth inning to secure the win.
He then pitched two innings of the 9-3 win in the series finale with Western Carolina on Saturday, March 24. Once again, Buster struck out five of the eight batters he faced, including all three outs of the seventh. He then fanned the first two batters he faced in the eighth before getting the third batter to ground out to second for a three-up, three-down frame.
For the year, Buster boasts a 2.18 ERA with a 3-1 record and one save in 11 appearances. He has pitched 20.2 innings and has a team-high 36 strikeouts compared to giving up just 12 walks, 17 hits and five earned runs.
The Citadel will next travel to Lexington, Virginia, for a three-game SoCon series at VMI next weekend. The series begins on Friday, March 30 with a 6 p.m. game. Game two of the series will feature a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday, March 31 and the series finale will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 1. All three games will be featured on ESPN3.
