NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

Three people have been charged with armed robbery following an incident involving a dating app meetup in North Charleston.

Jai Aaron Ferguson, 44, entered a hotel room at the Candlewood Suites in the 2100 block of Northwoods Boulevard on Tuesday and robbed a victim at knifepoint, according to the incident report.

The victim had previously agreed to meet a woman using the online dating app "Meetme" at the hotel. The two had been talking for a few days when the victim invited her to his hotel room and consented to allow the woman to bring a friend.

The trio arrived at the hotel at 3 a.m. and began listening to music. Around 4:45 a.m., the woman let the man he later identified as Ferguson inside the hotel room after he knocked, according to the incident report. The victim stated that Ferguson pulled out a knife and demanded $500 before leaving with the two females, according to the incident report.

The victim then described the three to officers and the suspect's vehicle was identified in the parking lot of the Walmart at 7400 Rivers Ave. The victim was able to identify Ferguson out of the show-up lineup. He also identified the two females, who were also charged with armed robbery in connection with the incident.

When Ferguson was searched at Charleston County Detention Center, two baggies of a substance that tested positive for cocaine were found on him which led to further charges of cocaine and methamphetamine possession.
