SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville Town Council voted unanimously Thursday night to sign a contract with Carolina Waste & Recycling, which will officially end the town's contract with Waste Pro.

This comes months after town employees fielded thousands of complaints from Summerville residents about Waste Pro's service. Several people said the company didn't pick up their trash on time and didn't recycle properly, among other concerns.

Earlier this month, town council decided to search for a new waste management company after finding Waste Pro was violating its contract signed in January.

Carolina Waste & Recycling will only recycle cardboard and paper, meaning the town's single-stream recycling program will be put on hold.

Representatives from the town said the Carolina Waste & Recycling contract is for three years.

The company submitted the lowest of three bids on Thursday, charging $8.76 per house per month for garbage and paper recycling services.
