NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

Police say the driver of a car that stalled on railroad tracks was able to escape the vehicle before a train crashed into it.

North Charleston Police responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a train on Remount Road at Dutton Avenue at approximately 1:28 a.m. Saturday, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

Pryor said the driver of the car was attempting to make a right turn onto Dutton Avenue but turned too soon and the vehicle became stuck on the railroad tracks.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before the collision happened, but it was not immediately clear how close the train was when the car first became stuck on the tracks.

Remount Road was closed for a time after the incident but has since reopened.
