Sloane Stephens withdraws from Volvo Car Open

DANIEL ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - 2016 Volvo Car Open champion Sloane Stephens withdraw from the tournament on Monday afternoon just two days after she was the championship at the tournament in Miami.

Tournament officials said Stephens withdrew due to fatigue.

"Charleston is truly one of the best events on tour." Stephens said in a statement. I sincerely look forward to playing [there] again many more times. I wish the best of luck to all the girls."

"My run to the title in Miami left me completely exhausted/fatigued both physically and mentally. I don't feel prepared to play my best and therefore it's in my best interest to get some rest."

Stephens has not been able to play in the Lowcountry since winning the tournament in 2016 when it was first renamed by new sponsor Volvo. She missed last year's event with an injury.
