Authorities: Gun found in pocket of kitchen worker at MUSC

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - MUSC public safety officers say they found a man with a gun on the hospital's downtown campus Tuesday shortly before 5 p.m.

Donnavon Fulton, 18, has been charged with carrying a firearm in a public building in connection with the incident.

A concerned citizen advised officers Fulton had a gun in his backpack or on him somewhere, according to the incident report. When the reporting officer arrived, the gun had already been taken from Fulton by another officer, the report stated.  The officer found the gun in Fulton's right front pants pocket, according to the report.

Seven bullets were also logged into evidence, according to the report, which explained the charge against Fulton. It cited a state law which says it's unlawful for someone to possess a firearm on property owned or operated by a private or public school, college, university, or publically-owned building without the permission of authorities in charge.

Fulton was then taken to Al Cannon Detention Center after paperwork was completed at the MUSC public safety building.
