NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

The death of a U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds pilot has put the squadron's appearance at the North Charleston airshow into question.

The airshow, which is free to the public, is scheduled for April 28 with the Thunderbirds expected to headline the event.

According to CBS News, Maj. Stephen Del Bagno was killed during a performing routine exercise at Nellis Air Force Base.

Joint-Base Charleston released a statement on the incident Thursday saying its unknown how this will impact future shows.

Team Charleston extends our prayers and condolences to the entire U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds team, family and friends during this difficult time.

No decision has been announced concerning the Thunderbirds scheduled performance at the Joint Base Charleston 2018 Air & Space Expo Apr. 28. It is unknown how this accident will impact the remainder of the 2018 Thunderbirds Season. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
