CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Cooper River Bridge Run weekend has arrived and with it the excitement from runners from all across the world.
"You can see the spirit everybody has, we have people that come in in costumes, it's just very infectious," said Wendy Heartz, the front office manager at Quality Inn & Suites at Patriots Point.
The hotel parking lot was full of cars, only a few with a South Carolina license plate.
"We have some of the elite athletes staying with us who have come in from Kenya," said Heartz "We've had people the race winners stay with us before."
Heartz isn't just getting her guests ready, she too will be running in the big race. However, her priority is to make everyone enjoy the weekend.
"I just want everybody to have a fabulous weekend. I love the way Charleston throws their whole self into it from the food to the fun," said Heartz.
Heartz said she hopes it's a weekend for not only the visitors but also the locals.
"Even if you live here you should have this experience at least one but a lot of people are coming from all over the place. They come back and meet with family and do it together as a family. The energy is just great and that's what I love about it most," said Heartz.
With the visitors in town, there's going to be an increase in traffic congestion, as well as road closures.
Here's a full list of closures you can expect throughout the weekend.
