Julia Goerges of Germany held off Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 7-6 (5), 6-3 to advance to the Volvo Car Open championship Sunday.
Goerges, the fifth seed, will play No. 12 seed Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands in the final later Sunday. Goerges and Sevastova began their semifinals match Saturday before rain halted play with the score tied at 4-all in the opening set.
The set resumed Sunday and went to a tiebreaker. After Goerges won that, she won five of the first seven games of the second set to take control. It is the furthest she's advanced in five trips to the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston.
Earlier, Bertens ousted Madison Keys of the United States by winning a third-set tiebreaker for a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5) victory.
