Police: Employee shot himself in thigh during confrontation at N. Charleston business

A North Charleston business employee is in the hospital after a shooting Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the Max Quick Stop and found him shot in the thigh which officers later learned was self-inflicted because of a confrontation with a drunk customer, according to North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor.

The customer had been asked to leave when the customer and business owner exchanged words and the customer threatened to cut the owner with the knife, Pryor said.

When the employee attempted to intervene and take his weapon from his pocket, he accidentally shot himself, according to Pryor.
