HANAHAN, SC (WCSC) -

Water service was restored Tuesday afternoon to 120 homes in Hanahan approximately 10 hours after a construction crew damaged a water main.

The crew struck a 12-inch water main while digging at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday leaving homes without water on Foster Creek Road in Hanahan, Charleston Water System spokesman Mike Saia said.

Foster Creek Road was expected to reopen by approximately 7 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the agency.

Saia also said there was a one-hour period, between 8 and 9 a.m., during which Goose Creek Primary School was also affected, but he said it did not affect regular operations.

Berkeley County School District spokesperson Katie Tanner said water was restored to the school at approximately 10:51 a.m., but said a 12-hour boil water advisory was in place. Students and staff would continue to have access to bottled water provided by the district for drinking, she said. Teaching continued and the students were served lunch.
