GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Lowcountry authorities have recovered a missing 2-year-old child and have charged a man following a reported kidnapping on Pawleys Island.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office arrested 25-year-old Danielle DaQuan Vanderhorst of Georgetown who was taken into custody around 2:30 p.m.
According to authorities, the child's mother reported that Vanderhorst drove away with the toddler in his 2009 Chevy Suburban when she got out of the car at the intersection of Waverly and Kings River roads after an argument.
"Deputies initially responded to a location on Kings River Road and met with the victim who stated that she and the aforementioned Vanderhorst had engaged in a verbal altercation," GCSO officials said."The victim instructed him to stop the vehicle so she could get out. She said he sped off before she could retrieve her child."
A report states that deputies responded, interviewed the victim and determined the identity of the suspect and that he was not the child's father or had any parental rights.
"Deputies proceeded to check a multitude of locations for his whereabouts," GCSO officials said." After a brief investigation and making contact with family members and the actual suspect, deputies were able to determine it was the suspect's birthday. He said he had things to do and would not turn himself in to deputies."
According to GCSO officials, after further information was gathered, his location was determined to be a medical facility in Murrells Inlet.
"Deputies responded to the area, located the vehicle, and initiated a traffic stop," GCSO officials said."The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the child was returned to the mother safe and sound."
The suspect is being transported to Georgetown County Detention Center, awaiting charges.
