CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston announces the first annual Plane Pull on the deck of the aircraft carrier the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Saturday.
Each team of 10 people will have a chance to pull an F-18 Hornet fighter plane over 100 feet. The team that pulls the plane the fastest, wins. The jet weighs in at around 18,000 pounds.
Costumes are encouraged for the event.
All of the money raised will support the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. It's a 32-bedroom home where families stay while their seriously ill children undergo medical treatment at nearby hospitals. The Ronald McDonald House relies on the community to raise enough money to keep the house open around the clock.
The Plane Pull is free to spectators from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Parking is $5.
Raffle tickets are available for such prizes as 2 round trip Southwest Airlines tickets to anywhere in the Continental US, 2 tickets to a Hootie and the Blowfish Friday night concert in Charleston, two Delta Picnic bags, a two night stay at Hotel Indigo in Mt. Pleasant, 10 $50 Starbucks cards and four tickets to see historic Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.
There will be awards given out for first, second and third place finishes, as well as Best Fundraiser, Best Team Name, Fastest Team, Best Costume and What Were You Thinking.
So far, $37,000 has been raised.
