MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A policy put in place by the Trump Administration will protect South Carolina Electric and Gas from any charges for destroying an osprey nest in February.
Federal investigators said in early March they were looking into the destruction of an active nest in Mount Pleasant.
Homeowners in the RiverTowne on the Wando neighborhood said a crew from the utility destroyed the nest on Feb. 27.
SCE&G spokesman Paul Fischer said of the federal investigation that SCE&G was "aware of the concerns" neighbors had expressed and would continue to cooperate as requested.
A new policy put in place by the Trump administration says oil and gas, wind and solar operators cannot be charged for accidentally killing or disrupting birds, according to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Jeffrey Fleming.
