Bucs Fall in Series Opener with Liberty

LYNCHBURG, VA - Charleston Southern's (11-25, 3-10) offense had no answer for Liberty's (20-12, 8-5) 10 hits as the Flames defeated the Bucs 4-0 on Friday night.

All four of Liberty's runs came on singles. The Flames got RBI singles in the second, third, fifth, and seventh innings. Six of Liberty's nine batters registered hits with three hitters achieving multi-hit games.

CSU was limited to five hits with three of them coming from Mike Sconzo. He went 3-for-3 and walked to reach base four times for the Bucs.

The Bucs had trouble getting anything started offensively. They never had more than one hit in an inning and were hitless in four innings.

Garret Price (5-2) got the win for Liberty. He worked six and two thirds scoreless innings with four hits, four walks, and nine strikeouts.

Tyler Weekley (1-6) took the loss for CSU, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.

Jackson Bertsch (2) picked up the save for Liberty, pitching two and one third scoreless innings  with one hit and six strikeouts.

Wil Hartsell made his 18 appearance of the season, making him the leader in the Big South conference.

Mike Sconzo is now on a five game hitting streak.

Jaret Bennett has not allowed a run in his last two appearances

CSU will continue their weekend series at Liberty. Due to impending weather, the teams will shift to a series closing doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
