MT. PLEASANT, SC - Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) struck out six and allowed one unearned run in six innings, and Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.) plated two with a first-inning single to lead the College of Charleston baseball team to a 4-1 win over Northeastern in Colonial Athletic Association play on Friday evening at Patriots Point.
With the victory, the College of Charleston (26-9, 8-2 CAA) extends its win streak to five and vaults back into the top spot in the CAA standings. The Cougars pushed across four runs on eight hits and six walks, while also stranding 10 baserunners. Sisk and Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) limited Northeastern (18-12, 5-2 CAA) to one run on six hits, and combined for nine strikeouts.
Dixon paced the Cougars with a two-run single in the first, and after Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) plated Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) in the second, Clay Hunt (Fort Mill, S.C.) capped the scoring for CofC with a solo homer to left. Manzo went 2-for-4 with a double as seven Cougars collected a hit.
Sisk picked up his seventh win of the season with a superb outing, striking out six and allowing one unearned run on six hits in six innings of work. Love entered with one on and no outs in the seventh and shut the door, retiring nine straight Huskies to move into a tie for second on the program's all-time list with his 20th career save.
Max Burt led the way for Northeastern with a 3-for-4 night, while Ian Fair drove in Charlie McConnell with a single for the Huskies' lone run of the night. Tyler Brown surrendered four runs on six hits and five walks in five innings to take the loss. Josh Winkler tossed three scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and one free pass.
The Cougars and Huskies will meet in game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm, with Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) taking the ball opposite Northeastern senior Brian Christian.
