North Charleston Police chief starts reading initiative

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department is trying to teach the importance of reading.

New Police Chief Reggie Burgess and the North Charleston Police Department kicked off the 'Reading Patrol' for kids initiative on Saturday.

The new partnership between the North Charleston Police Department and Barnes & Noble is meant to connect kids in the community with the police department in a positive environment.

Burgess said that the event is "another great opportunity to continue our efforts of community and police relation."

"Reading Patrol" will take place the second Saturday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. at the Barnes & Nobles on Rivers Avenue.
