Charleston Police Department to host National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston law enforcement wants to help get rid of your old medication.

The Charleston Police Department is hosting a ‘National Prescription Take-Back Back Day,’ April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is intended to help with the safe disposal of any unused or expired prescription medication.

Pills and patches will only be accepted, needles or liquids will not.   

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Tri-County area is experiencing nearly twice the national average of Opioid Drug Overdose deaths.

There will be four locations disposal:

Charleston Police Headquarters located at 180 Lockwood Dr.,

The southeast entrance of Citadel Mall

The James Island Lowe’s located at 700 Daniel Ellis

The Johns Island shopping center located at 3575 Maybank Hwy.

If you are not able to make a drop off on April 28, there are permanent collection boxes located at MUSC Public Safety HQ on Douty Street, CVS on St. Andrews Boulevard, and the Mt. Pleasant Police Headquarters.
