MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Preschoolers at a Mount Pleasant school did their part in celebrating Earth Day Friday.
Students of Chesterbrook Academy Preschool celebrated the annual event by releasing 18,000 ladybugs throughout the school yard, according to school spokesperson Emily Meier.
"Chesterbrook Academy teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age," she said.
Kids dressed in red and black and wore antennae hats to get into the spirit of the occasion.
Lessons leading up to Friday's release taught them ladybugs serve as a "natural pesticide" by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs, Meier said.
