Weekley leads Bucs to 3-1 over Radford

RADFORD, VA - Tyler Weekley turned in his best start of the season, allowing just one unearned run through seven innings, to lead Charleston Southern (13-28, 4-13) to a 3-1 win over Radford (16-22, 7-10) on Saturday.

In his longest start of the season, Weekley pitched seven innings and allowed one unearned run on five hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. All five hits came in the first three innings as Weekley and the Bucs' relievers held the Highlanders hitless in the final six innings.

The first two CSU batters were retired to start the sixth inning. After a walk from Mike Sconzo, Christian Maggio singled to bring up Ryan Stoudemire with two on and two outs. Stoudemire swung on the first pitch he saw and drove a ball over the left field fence to bring home three runs and give the Bucs a 3-1 lead.

Following Weekley's start, the Bucs' bullpen combined to retire six Highlanders in a row for the final six outs. Wil Hartsell got two fly ball outs and a grounder to end the eighth while Cody Smith (6) picked up the save by striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Austin Ross (6-4) took the loss for Radford, pitching six innings and allowing three runs, on six hits and three walks, and five strikeouts.
