Coroner identifies victim in fatal I-95 crash, search underway for missing dog

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coroner's Office is asking for people to be on the lookout for a dog that belonged to a North Carolina woman who died early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle wreck.

Ashley Jane Blandon, 20, of Forest City, NC, was killed when the Honda Accord she was driving went off the right side of I-95, struck a tree and caught fire, according to Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers.

Blandon's dog, Darla, was traveling with her and was briefly located by first responders at the scene, but Brouthers said the dog escaped.

The incident happened around 5:35 a.m. near mile marker 79, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Sonny Collins. Collins said Blandon went off the left side of the interstate, over-corrected, then went off the right side of the roadway and hit the tree.
