Lowcountry Red Cross volunteers gather for annual awards

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Lowcountry red cross volunteers celebrated another year of service on Sunday.

The group gathered at Palmetto Island County Park to hand out its annual awards. The Red Cross is celebrating 101 years in the Lowcountry. 90 percent of the people who help the Red Cross are volunteers

Anthony Thomas was given the volunteer of the year award.

"To participate and be a difference and just be somebody who can do something positive," Thomas said of why he joined.  "Even if it's one day or one month or once per week, we should all go to help somebody out because we're all here to help each other."
