BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have identified the attempted murder suspect they are actively searching for in Berkeley County.
Deputies are searching for 46-year-old William Casselman who is wanted by the St. Stephen Police Department on a charge of attempted murder.
Multiple law enforcement units including those from the St. Stephen Police Department and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office were spotted off Highway 17-A in the Moncks Corner and Macedonia area.
The sheriff's office considers Casselman armed and dangerous.
If you see him you are asked to call your local police agency or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
"He is dangerous," Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said."If you see something, do not approach him, call us. We have him pinned down, we believe, in a heavily wooded area near Macedonia off Canady Branch Road. We believe he's in this particular area right now."
According to investigators, Casselman is wanted for an incident that happened on March 24 when he got into an argument and shot the victim in the mouth.
Walter Dennis has lived here in Moncks Corner his entire life, and says this much activity is not the norm in his usually quiet neighborhood.
"I haven't had anything like this happen here before," Dennis said."It's safe here. The only thing you might see is someone with a flat tire or that car over there that ran out of gas."
A K-9 and a Charleston County Sheriff's Office helicopter are searching the area.
Agents with the the U.S. Marshal's Office have also responded to the scene.
Law enforcement has been in the area since 1 p.m.
Macedonia Middle School and H.E. Bonner Elementary School were both on lockdown because of the search.
