Law enforcement warned the community of scammers targeting the elderly.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, a rise of scam artist targeting the area is taking place.
Scammers call the elderly reporting that a warrant has been issued for them, or a relative, for missing jury duty and they need to pay $2,000 to avoid jail time.
The scammers then request for the receiver to purchase money or gift cards and relay the card information.
In 2016, the rise of scammers posing as Charleston County Police was also reported.
Berkeley County law enforcement says they want you to inform senior citizens about the ongoing scam to prevent the crime from occurring.
Additionally, if you have any information on these incidents call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
