A six-run first, and five and one-third one hit innings of relief by Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) propelled the College of Charleston baseball team to an 8-3 win over Towson in Colonial Athletic Association play on Friday afternoon.
With the victory, College of Charleston (31-15, 13-6 CAA) extends its win streak to four while staying within 1.5 games of first-place Northeastern in the CAA standings. The Cougars also equal their conference win total from last season with five games remaining on their CAA slate.
Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the offense, while Clay Hunt (Fort Mill, S.C.) drove in two runs of his own with a two-run single in the Cougars’ six-run first. Luke Morgan (New Lenox, Ill.) clubbed his fifth home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning, as Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) added a pair of doubles. Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) and Tommy Richter (Wayne, Pa.) each drove in one run.
Evan Sisk (Chester, S.C.) surrendered three runs on five hits and three walks in three and two-thirds innings in his 12th start of the season. Carter Love came in with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, and only allowed one baserunner in five and one-third shutout innings to earn his sixth win of the season.
Colin Gimblet paced the Tigers with a 3-for-4 afternoon that included two runs scored. Noah Cabrera drove in two runs with an RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly, as Logan Burke added an RBI double.
David Marriggi surrendered seven runs on six hits and four walks in four innings to take the loss. Gavin Weyman allowed one unearned run on two hits in five frames out of the bullpen.
The Cougars and Tigers will meet in game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
