LAKE MARION, SC (WCSC) -

The Berkeley County coroner confirmed Saturday night a body found earlier in the day in Lake Marion was that of a boater reported missing Friday.

Jerry Ferneding, 74, had been reported missing Friday after he was overdue from a fishing trip, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

A fisherman spotted Ferneding's body shortly before 1 p.m. and notified authorities, according to SC Department of Natural Resources spokesman Robert McCullough. The body was spotted in the diversion canal, he said.

McCullough said the body was turned over to the Berkeley County coroner.

The body was located in an area where crews with the SC Department of Natural Resources and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office were searching for Ferneding on Friday.

Ferneding's death was ruled accidental, Salisbury said.
