CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police cleared the scene Saturday night hours after a suspicious package was reported at a West Ashley store.
The package, reported at 4:57 p.m. at the Goodwill on Shelby Ray Court in West Ashley, turned out to be a "novelty item," that posed no danger, Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said.
Police were clearing the scene at 7:48 p.m. almost three hours after the report was called in to Charleston County dispatchers.
A portion of the roadway had been blocked off with police tape. Shortly after 6 p.m., Charleston Police bomb squad vehicles arrived on the scene.
Police said the store was evacuated as a precaution but said traffic on Glenn McConnell Parkway was not affected.
A Charleston Police K9 unit was also brought to the scene during the investigation.
