ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning shooting that left one man wounded.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Big House Road on St. Helena Island.

The victim reported that he was in bed when he heard multiple gunshots coming from outside his house.

A stray bullet from the shooting traveled into his home, wounding him, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office.

Witness told deputies, right after the gunshots were heard, a vehicle left the area.

The victim was transported to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital by EMS paramedics for treatment. He is in stable condition.
