DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Dorchester Fire-Rescue honored tradition Monday with an addition to its fleet.
Officials conducted a "push-in" and "wet down" ceremony. Speakers included County Council Chairman Jay Bryars, Fire Chief Tres Atkinson and Chaplain James Lewis.
Firefighters first hosed down the truck before manually pushing it into its new home. The tradition dates to the 1830s when companies used horse-drawn equipment. Back then, it was much more difficult to push back into the station. Horses also used to be wet down and the community would watch.
The truck is now ready for service following the dedication.
