CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A local chef and a restaurant have won two prestigious culinary awards.
Rodney Scott of Rodney Scott's BBQ on 1011 King St. won the James Beard award for Best Chef for the Southeast.
Scott's family originally opened up a convenience store in Hemingway and eventually began to prepare whole hog BBQ on a regular basis.
In 2010, Scott participated in the Charleston Wine and Food Festival where his personality and his BBQ became a hit in the Lowcountry.
He eventually opened up his own restaurant in Charleston in July of 2016.
FIG won for outstanding wine program.
The restaurant, on 232 Meeting St., is the brainchild of Mike Lata and Adam Nemirow who in 2003 began with a "simple philosophy of serving honest, local ingredients with informed service, in a comfortable setting."
FIG started as a bistro but has become one of the "Southeast's top culinary destinations."
