ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Aquarium released two sea turtles named Coral and Rhaegal on Thursday.
Coral was first spotted last July floating offshore near Edisto Island.
It was apparent that the turtle had been hit by a boat. Coral was in rehabilitation at the aquarium's Sea Turtle Care Center for the last 11 months.
Rhaegal is one of three cold-stunned sea turtles that was transferred to the South Carolina aquarium from the Virginia Aquarium. When the turtle was discovered in Virginia Beach, Va., Rhaegal's body temperature was extremely low and her heart rate was just 12 beats per minute.
The aquarium's sea turtle care center has rehabilitated and released 249 turtles to date.
Thursday's release will brought the total to 251.
