CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

WCSC, Live 5, the Raycom Media-owned CBS affiliate announced today that the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will be inducting anchors Bill Sharpe and Debi Chard into their Silver Circle.  The induction ceremony will take place at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, September 7th.

“The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter is pleased to announce your nominees, Bill Sharpe and Debi Chard, have been chosen for induction in the 2018 Gold and Silver Circle as an anchor team!  We couldn’t pick just one - so for the first time we are inducting an anchor team in to our Silver Circle!”

The Gold & Silver Circle is one of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter’s most prestigious awards, honoring a lifetime of dedication to the television industry.  It’s a milestone immortalized in silver and gold, and an honor reserved only for dedicated broadcasters who have left their mark.

“Debi has been with our station 42 years and Bill for 44 years, that’s an unbelievable amount of experience at one station,” said Dan Cates, Vice President and General Manager of WCSC. “The two of them have been anchoring our top-rated newscasts together since 1990, so it makes perfect sense for them to receive this incredible award together.  Making chapter history as the first anchor team so honored.”

Established in 1989, the Gold & Silver Circles honor a lifetime of dedication to the television industry.  This prestigious award is reserved for those who persevere in an industry known for change.  Inductees for the Silver Circle have at least 25 years of experience.  These leaders join an impressive group of industry professionals who have helped shape the past, present, and continue to influence the future of the broadcast industry.

Bill Sharpe is an institution in the Lowcountry.  He believes that news anchors and reporters should dig beneath the surface of a story to find out what’s really going on in our communities.  Bill has been living that ideal for nearly 44 years, and all that time has been spent right here at WCSC.  Currently Bill anchors the Noon, 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. newscasts in the studio named in his honor.

Debi Chard recently celebrated her 42nd anniversary with Live 5.  She currently anchors the 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. newscasts and reports for the stations investigative unit.  Since joining the station in 1976, Debi has also served as medical reporter, managing editor, assignment editor, producer and even news director.  In May of 2016, the newsroom at WCSC was renamed the Debi Chard Newsroom in her honor and appreciation for 40 years of dedicated service to Live 5 and the surrounding community.
