Congregation moving forward after fire at Mount Pleasant church

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Weeks after an electrical issue sparked a fire at a church in the Old Village in Mount Pleasant its congregation is continuing to move forward.

The fire happened at the St Andrews ministry center building last month.

An outdoor service was held on Wednesday where the St. Andrews Worship band started the night off with live music.

Food trucks were lined up with food for everyone.

In the early morning hours of April 22, fire investigators say an electrical fire started, heavily damaging the church ministry.

The congregation and its leaders say Wednesday night is about the church coming together as a family.

"A lot of life has taken place in there and to have it taken away so suddenly is a loss," said Steve Wood, St. Andrews rector.

Wood says structural engineers are currently assessing the ministry and nearby buildings.

He hopes to start demolition in the next few weeks.
