CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It may have been a little unsightly on the Charleston peninsula, but as of Thursday afternoon, the old Sergeant Jasper building has officially been torn down.
It's been empty since 2013
The Beach Company, which owns the 17-story building, chose to take down the current structure without using dynamite.
That means it's taken a little longer to get down.
The new project will have homes, offices, and commercial spaces on the ground level.
Construction on the new building will start this summer.
